Service FAQ

What is Counselling?

Counselling is a safe space for you to explore and reflect on the issues you are facing (or have faced). You will be listened to without judgement and have the opportunity to share the load with someone outside of your situation for a fresh perspective. The primary focus in my work is ACT (Acceptance and Commitment Therapy).

What is EFT?

Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) is a relatively new therapeutic intervention that was developed by Gary Craig in the 1990s. The process involves tapping on acupressure points to stimulate them while focusing on situations that represent personal fear or trauma. The process can help you to transform and release feelings of hurt, shame, fear and anger. Even just a few rounds of tapping can make people feel lighter and calmer.

What is Online Counselling/Therapy?

While not for everybody, online counselling (also known as online therapy, e-therapy, e-counselling, teletherapy, or cyber-counselling) offers the opportunity to access a safe space for exploration, introspection, and reflection with the convenience of working online. You can access secure video sessions, or if you prefer, you can use a secure live chat option, which is especially useful if you are accessing the service from somewhere you do not wish to be overheard. Sessions are conducted using Signal.

Does Online Counselling/Therapy Work?

While for some it is a new concept, I have been working online effectively since 2019 with great results. Studies have shown that online therapy can be just as effective as face to face, although it is important to bear in mind it is not suitable for those in crisis or with significant support needs.

Who is Not Suitable for Online Counselling/Therapy?

Online counselling is not suitable: If you are in crisis/have an emergency, or are feeling suicidal. If you experience severe or long-term mental health problems. If you are suffering from a psychiatric disorder and/or experiencing psychotic episodes such as hallucinations, paranoia, or delusions. This is not a crisis service. If you are currently in crisis, please call 111, your local A&E, or contact the Samaritans

What are the Benefits of Online Counselling/Therapy?

As well as the more obvious benefits of traditional therapy, online services are a great option for people with accessibility needs, and those living in remote areas and it can save time and money spent travelling and reduce time taken off work for accessing appointments.
